Filter Market Set for Double – Digit Growth by 2029

Market Projection in Sales and Consumption

A recent report titled “The Future of Nonwovens for Filtration 2029″ by Smithers predicts that the sales of nonwovens for air/gas and liquid filtration will surge from $6.1 billion in 2024 to $10.1 billion in 2029 at constant prices, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10.7%. Meanwhile, the global consumption of nonwovens for filtration is expected to increase from 826.5 thousand tons in 2024 to 1.1 million tons in 2029, growing at an annual rate of 5.9%.

Dominant Manufacturing Processes

The market is mainly dominated by three processes: wetlaid, spunlaid, and drylaid (needle – punched). Wetlaid nonwovens, accounting for 47.4% of the market in 2024, are the leading process. Due to the rising global demand for sustainable products, its growth, though slow, remains steady. Spunlaid nonwovens rank second with a 29.6% market share. The sharp increase in mask demand during the 2020 – 2021 pandemic led to massive investment in meltblown spunbond production lines. Despite post – pandemic oversupply driving prices down, it has spurred more application needs. Drylaid nonwovens (mainly needle – punched) held a 17.9% market share in 2024, but their growth rate is relatively slow.

Regional Market Analysis

North America is currently the largest market for filtration nonwovens, consuming 42.8% of the global total in 2024. Asia follows with 28.2%, and Europe with 22.7%. However, Asia is expanding rapidly and is projected to increase its market share to 33.6% by 2029.

Key Influencing Factors

Smithers’ report also points out several factors that will shape the market in the coming years. These include new performance requirements like more efficient filtration and lower energy consumption, geopolitical factors causing supply chain adjustments, regulatory changes such as stricter environmental requirements, and the need for sustainability, for example, the use of recyclable and bio – based materials. As the global demand for clean air and water continues to grow, the nonwovens market for filtration is set to experience continuous growth in the next five years.
